Spring 2012 Volunteer Workday Schedule

Details
Created on Tuesday, 10 April 2012 13:49

With Spring here we are starting our Volunteer Workdays. Please stop by if you have some time to donate to the farm. No reservations are necessary. Please see the schedule below:

  • Tuesdays: 3-6pm
  • First Saturday of every month: 10am - 12pm

Here's some of the activities if you stop by:

  • Planting & harvesting crops.
  • General garden & rooftop care
  • Composting

We hope you'll stop and we also hope you'll consider donating to make this project sustainable from year to year.  The rooftop farm cannot exist to donate produce to local food pantries without the generous support of individuals like you.  If you'd like to donate to the Hell's Kitchen Farm Project please email us at info@hellskitchenfarmprojectorg and we'll send you further instructions.  All donations are tax-deductable.

Thank you!

The recent Spring-like weather has been an excellent reminder that change is always on the horizon. Winter will inevitably yield to Spring, Spring to Summer, and so on... We are still, of course, in the thick of winter, but let's take a lesson from the peeping crocuses to set our sights on warmer days!

In our own CSA, we have experienced some changes; now would be a good a time as any to introduce myself :) My name is Lauren Baccus and I'll be taking over duties from Anthony whose great work as Coordinator you are probably already familiar with. I also work with the Hell's Kitchen Farm Project, am an educator with the New York Botanical Garden and spent all of last Summer on an organic farm in rural Pennsylvania. I am especially excited to be back in the city working with the CSA, and am definitely looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all!

As one of my first updates, I am happy to say that Rogelio and Yesenia have recovered from last year's hurricane and are already preparing for an abundant season. The farm now operates on a total of 80 acres (which more than doubles last year's acreage) allowing them to offer even more CSA shares this time around. Despite last season's setbacks, they loved the experience and were excited to share the new crops they will be bringing to the CSA this year. Expect lots more varieties of carrots (even purple!!), peppers, and tomatoes especially.

Hopefully, we've whet your appetite and got you thinking ahead to this season - Look out for a informational meeting sometime in late February. Bring your questions, bring your enthusiasm...bring a friend!

Look forward to enjoying a bountiful season with you all (and keep eating those veggies!)

~ Lauren B
